Darkness Rising

Darkness Rising is a vertical platformer I just finished for my Solo Game Development class here at DePaul... focusing on basic arrow-key/wasd movement and precision space-bar jumps to progress upward. (escape button is pause menu). Reach the top to 'win.'

It was incredibly fun to design from the ground up, and bringing it to life was even more so. The dev process, because of how I scheduled my personal milestones, was relatively stress free, and even with set-backs like bugs and rendering problems, working through them in unique and out-of-the-box ways made the end result so much more satisfying to me.

Notably, I would like to point out that this is not meant to be a game for everyone, as I designed it with a very specific, niche audience in mind. It's designed as a one-shot, meaning one life; one attempt. You either make it or you restart. The goal isn't to win on the first go, or even the second... or the third. It's about seeing how far you can make it, and seeing if you can get a little farther each time you make an attempt... until eventually, farther equals the game's win condition--i.e. the top of the tower. Personally, I've always had a certain kind of respect for these types of games, as well as the people who play them, because they are NOT easy, hahaha. But nonetheless, they are enjoyable.

So with all of that said, I hope you enjoy your experience with this little game of mine, should you choose to play it. :)
